German term or phrase: Anschluß vs. Verbindung
I have asked a similar question before, but this text is driving me insane!

In the first sentence (below) I opted for connection for Verbindung and contacts for Anschlüsse:

Bei dem opto-elektronischen Bauelement ist der Halbleiter und seine Verbindung mit den beiden Anschlüssen abgedeckt....

Now comes this sentence:

Die Gestaltung der Anschlüsse, die auf der Außenfläche des Isoliermaterial-Trägers je eine *Anschlußkontaktfläche* bilden, gestattet die Herstellung einer elektrischen Verbindung zwischen....

HELP!

terminal vs. connection
Explanation:
As I see it, the problem comes up because you've been using 'contacts' for 'Anschlüsse' and now you have this word 'Anschlußkontaktfläche', right? Use 'terminal' for 'Anschluss' and you have 'terminal contact surface', which would work nicely in the sentence.

agree  Richard Stephen: That ought to do it. I don't think German authors are always consistent in their use of 'Anschluß' and 'Verbindung' and frequently do mean the same thing, so any solution will have to be based on the specific case.
