German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Energy / Power Generation / Multistage turbocompressor
German term or phrase: vorgespannte Prozessgas
Um den Verbrauch an vorgespanntem Prozessgas möglichst gering zu halten ist es zweckmässig, wenn zwischen dem Druckraum und einem Stufenaustritt der zugeordneten Stufe eine Zusatzwellendichtung vorgesehen ist.

I cannot think that any of the normal translations of "vorgespannt" apply here. I also notice that later in the document there is a reference to "vorgespannte" Stillstand.

(to minimise the) initial volume of process gas required

Explanation:
Does anyone out there agree that "vorgespannt" can sometimes mean "placed in front of ..." in terms of time as well as space (sometimes it refers to a period of time before another period of time or a certain event). This has caused me major problems in the past. Hence, "initial".

I'm sorry I don't have any examples, and can only appeal to the judgement of other users.

Is this process gas required to kick-start the process, to sort of prime the pump?
