These units are used in isolated, local grids (Inselbetrieb).
"Netzbildende Einheiten: Diese Komponenten werden auf die Ausgangsspannung gere-
gelt, haben also eine Spannungsquellencharakteristik. Sie bestimmen Spannung und
Frequenz im Netz und balancieren Energiedargebot und Verbrauch aus. Dazu benöti-
gen sie einen Speicher. Aufgrund ihrer Flexibilität sind Batteriestromrichter ideale netz-
bildende Einheiten. Auch kommen Dieselaggregate und Wasserturbinen in Frage. Da
sowohl bei Dieselaggregaten als auch Wasserturbinen keine Rückspeisung möglich ist,
muß durch die Betriebsführung und eventuell Dumploads sichergestellt werden, daß im
Inselnetz kein Energieüberangebot auftritt. Windenergiekonverter und Photovoltaik sind
nur bedingt für die Netzbildung geeignet, da sie über wenig Speicherkapazität verfügen."
