Looking for confirmation really. This is from a company history - the firm started out making "Bohrwinden" and "Brustbohrmaschinen" in the mid-19th century. Before I start going on about "breast drills" I would really like to know that is a genuine term for a tool! There are a couple oon eBay but Wikipedia says "also known as eggbeater drill" which sounds less anatomical (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill)...

I have found a picture of something similar here:

Hi Sarah - I've been an actual cabinetmaker for 25 years. I have a large collection of drills - power drills and hand drills. Woodworkers still prefer hand drills for certain operations, especially those where precision is required. A breast drill would be used if the material is especially hard, like rosewood. The breastplate pressed against your chest allows you to apply extra pressure.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Kim - I found the ebay ref and freedictionary definition. Wanted to be sure actual woodworkers would have used the term in the days before power tools.

Asker: Hurrah - a woodworker is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks Kim who is a man and therefore himself :)

Asker: And thanks for clarifying the eggbeater thing people
