Tech/Engineering - Engineering: Industrial
German term or phrase: Kolbenklemmer wegen Span
I have just a few more sentences left and am simply guessing about the exact translation of this one phrase. This is from a user's manual for a piston pump - caution instructions. I assume this is some kind of signal that comes up on a computer terminal - it's an error message.

Sentence:

Sicherstellen durch den Anlagenhersteller oder –betreiber, dass eine Fehlfunktion der Pumpe (z. B. *Kolbenklemmer wegen Span*) erkannt und die damit verbundene Fehlfunktion der Achse/Maschine/Anlage vermieden wird

I'm guessing this is a "piston jam" but am not too sure ... and "wegen Span" has me a bit lost.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks so much, David! This was a great help! I'm using "jam" instead of "seizure".

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks, David! That's helped knocked me in the right direction....I was thinking of some kind of voltage problem (Spannung = Span)....but you're answer does make more sense after all....
