Bernd, so in essence the "nachführen" is the renewal of fibre glass material which has been worn away, if I understand it correctly.

I'd think that the immersion part of it is the first time entry of the fiber into the metal melt whereas the feeding part simply replaces used fiber tip parts.

Die Glasfaser wird eingetaucht und würde nach kurzer Zeit durch chemische und thermische Abnutzung unbrauchbar werden. Deswegen muss die 'verbrauchte' Spitze erneuert werden, was durch kontinuierliches Nachführen der Glasfaser geschieht - in etwa wie bei der Schweißelektrode.
Vielleicht ist die Vibration sogar gewollt, damit die Spitze in vordefinierten Zeitabständen abbricht ...

Bernd, good morning. I am not sure how to fit "feed" into the sentence if the glass fibre has already been immersed into the molten metal. Would you be able to expand upon that? However, I can see how it would work in the second sentence.
