In a patent about measuring cracks in a surface. Maybe it's "gallery", but I can't confirm that it is in this context.

This would be similar to an automotive context, where I've come across this term as a "cooling gallery" (which incidentally was used as "gallery" in English) in the sense of "Kühlraum". I believe leaving the English "gallery" is not very common, though.
