German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general)
German term or phrase: selbsttragend
Es geht um den Bau einer Kugelbahn:
Das System muss selbsttragend sein und darf von niemandem während des Betriebes berührt werden.

Mit "selbsttragend" ist hier wohl nicht "self-supporting" gemeint, sondern dass wenn die Kugel einmal ins Rollen gebracht wurde, sollte sie nur durch die Neigung der Bahn in Bewegung gehalten werden. Es ist quasi ein geschlossenes System, in der die Kugel nicht mehr berührt werden darf.

I think the 'self' is not fitting in this case. Simply means, needs no outside manipulation.
