My question concerns the use of "Stauch*/Stauchen" in this case, in various combinations, such as Stauchverhalten, Stauchmessung, Stauchkraft, gestaucht etc. "Compression" is of course the first guess and the suggestion of many dictionaries, but am not entirely sure about it.
My problem is that nothing is actually "compressed" in the way I understood it hitherto. Wikipedia defines Compression as "Physical compression is the result of the subjection of a material to compressive stress, which results in reduction of volume as compared to an uncompressed but otherwise identical state", which sort of roughly matches my understanding. But in this case, no reduction of volume takes place. But then again, Wikipedia also says "In simple terms, compression is a pushing force", so it might fit after all.
The setup described is as follows: A catheter is placed in a transparent plastic tube, with the top end of the catheter clamped in a testing device and the other end resting on a plate. The tube is shorter than the catheter, so part of the catheter protrudes at the bottom. The clamped end is then moved down and the contact force on the plate measured, until the tip slips off the plate. The catheter is straight at the beginning, then it starts to curve to compensate for the shorter distance between clamped end and other end, until it sometimes sort of forms a loop. And that "curving" of the catheter in the protruding part (it cannot curve as much inside the tube) is what is called the "Gestauchter Tip-Bereich" in the source text. The force applied to achieve this curving is called the Stauchkraft.
Can anybody here confirm whether "compression" is also OK for this meaning? If not, what would you call this "Stauchung" instead?

A catheter advanced to this portion may not follow the guidewire when it is retracted and cause the guide wire to buckle into a loop. The catheter may then drag along the inside of vessel and catch on the guide catheter tip.

It has become apparent that the unfavourable buckling behaviour of the known catheter is due to the asymmetrical cross-section of the basic body.
With the catheter according to the invention the buckling behaviour is only defined by the basic body. The separate tube-like body lies more or less free inside the lumen of the basic body and does not influence the buckling behaviour. Consequently the catheter according to the invention has a constant bending stiffness in all directions which is conducive to the prevention of buckling behaviour.
