Tech/Engineering - Environment & Ecology / measurement of diffuse emissions
German term or phrase: Wellen- und Kolbendurchführungen, Spindeldurchführungen und Flanschverbindungen
This again comes from the VDI guideline 4285 (Determination of diffusive emissions by measurements). I am translating from the English translation, and I was wondering if the English translation I am working from is valid and if you can explain the pieces of equipment to me? Except for the flange connection of course.

The phrase has been translated as "at shaft and piston ducts and at mandrel ducts and flange connections."

The discussion is about diffuse emissions from crude oil processing industry.

--- The German paragraph is: ---

Bei der Förderung der Produkte durch Apparate und
Rohrleitungen treten Emissionen an Wellen- und
Kolbendurchführungen, Spindeldurchführungen und
Flanschverbindungen auf. Erhöhte Emissionen aus
Dichtelementen sind hauptsächlich auf Alterung und
Verschleiß zurückzuführen. Sachgemäßer Einbau, regelmäßige Funktionsprüfungen und Wartungen sind
deshalb auch hinsichtlich der Emissionen unerlässlich.

--- The English paragraph is: ---

During transport of the products through apparatus
and tubes, emissions occur at shaft and piston ducts
and at mandrel ducts and flange connections. Increased
emissions from sealing elements are principally
due to aging and wear. Therefore, a proper installation,
regular inspections and maintenance are
essential with respect to the emissions.

Explanation:
Sad to say, IMO the translator had no idea what this text was about and simply picked a words from a dictionary.

These are all openings for rotating shafts, rods of hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders, and spindles of valves. They all require seals, which can leak (which is the basic point of the text).

Also, Rohrleitungen is piping in this context, and the translator used the definite article (the) improperly.

On second thought, the translator may have understood what it is about but didn't know the proper English terms.
