Schwergutfallen haben die Funktion eines kleinen künstlichen Sedimentationsbeckens, das im Materialstrom positioniert wird. Dabei wird der Strom nicht unterbrochen, nur schwere Partikel
sinken ab. Hydraulische Grobgoldfallen sind eine einfache, effektive und preiswerte Möglichkeit, Grobgoldpartikel (Körner, Nuggets u.a.) abzuscheiden. Entscheidendere Bedeutung haben
hydraulische Schwergutfallen als Amalgam- und Quecksilberfallen nach Amalgamationsverfahren.

For the processing of finely intergrown gold ores which do not have high sulfide contents, the amalgamation table represents a sorting method which is very effective, reasonably-priced and simple to operate. The use of amalgamation tables should, however, automatically include the use of devices for the recovery of amalgam and mercury (retorts and hydraulic heavy-material traps) for protection of both health and the environment.

A sluice of claim 12 wherein said means comprises a heavy material trap installed at the feed end of said sluice, said heavy material trap comprising a box, which contains a barrier the full width of said sluice, said barrier is high enough to retain all heavy material.

The downstream liquid separator E may contain sieve plates 39, for example, which allow the PET flakes to pass to the inlet of the neutralizer G but which separate the cleaning solution, which is recycled to the heavy material trap C by a supply pump 40 and supply branch 21.
