German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Environment & Ecology / soil remediation | | German term or phrase: (in) Phase | Does this mean 'free-phase'?
Here are some examples (in the 3rd example only the word Phase is used):
- Eine Produktphase wurde direkt nicht nachgewiesen. Hilfsweise wurde angenommen, die gesamte Menge an bodengebundenen LCKW würde sich im Grundwasser lösen. Da dann die maximale Löslichkeit überschritten wäre, wurde postuliert, dass die LCKW in Phase vorliegen.
- Es wurde vermutet, dass LCKW in Phase abgesunken sind und sich auf der Oberfläche der Schluff/Ton-Schicht entsprechend deren Gefälle ausgebreitet hat.
- Dass Phase abgesunken war, ist hoch wahrscheinlich.
- Es ist unklar, ob der Transport der LCKW in Phase oder über das auf der Tonoberfläche abfließende Stauwasser erfolgte.

Im Deutschen wird von "Schadstoffen in Phase" gesprochen, im Englischen ist mir der Begriff NAPL geläufig.
Unterschieden wird dabei noch zwischen:
LNAPL - light non-aqueous phase liquid
und
DNAPL - dense non-aqueous phase liquid
je nach Dichte.

LCKW haben höhere Dichten als Wasser, gehören also zu den DNAPL, die auf die Basis eines grundwasserführenden Horizontes absinken.
Und ja, das sind freie (Schadstoff-) Phasen

"LCKW in Phase" I would translate as "VCH as (a) DNAPL"
LCKW = Leichtflüchtige chlorierte Kohlenwasserstoffe
VCH = Volatile Chlorinated Hydrocarbons
