Science - Environment & Ecology / Help needed for the exact phrasing
German term or phrase: Die Lufttemperatur ist ein *Maß* für den Wärmeinhalt der Luft.
I am not really sure about the English translation for the word *Maß*.

Until now the sentence reads as follows:
"The atmospheric temperature is a ?? for the heat content of the air".

The whole text is about skiing, snow grooming and part of a description/manual for the people involved. The language should be educated and clear. At the moment I really have no clue about the exact term because *unit* in my opinion would be too much oriented on looking at the thermometer and "reading" the values.

Hope they will also enhance your ski slopes....

Would be fine if colleagues would help me out here.

I'd call it. But isn't the whole sentence an oxymoron? The higher the air temp, the more heat is in the air.

Asker: I think the whole sentence isn´t an oxymoron. It´s a kind of appetizer/teaser for the following chapter describing the influence on meteorological phenomenons and how to handle this during the winter period.
