German term or phrase: (ohne Verpflichtung) zum Protest
I especially don't get the "zum Protest" bit. Is it Austrian, or just something German I haven't heard before?

Wechsel und Schecks werden nur nach besonderer Vereinbarung und nur zahlungshalber *ohne Verpflichtung zum Protest* angenommen. Alle Einziehungs- und Diskontspesen gehen zu Lasten des Auftraggebers.

Bills of exchange and cheques are only accepted pursuant a special agreement and only on a cash basis *without obligation zum Protest*. All collection and discount expenses shall be borne by the ordering party.

Clarification request(s) and response
davidgreen: 2:29pm Nov 20, 2005: your answers - so do you mean the translation is "without obligation to protest" ?
Christian: 3:16pm Nov 20, 2005: It sounds a bit strange, I know, but I do think the translation would be "without obligation to protest". "Protest" can also be a verb, example: to protest a bill -> Wechselprotest einlegen (Der Große Eichborn EN-DE). -
