German term or phrase: abschöpfen
Wichtig:
Die Kassenschublade ist regelmäßig (mehrmals am Tag) *abzuschöpfen*.

Talking about not having too much change in the cash register. Best so far that has occurred to me is "skimmed off". But I am not happy with it as it sounds more like milk and siphoning also has similar overtones to me. Any better ideas?
TIA Stephen

abschöpfen emptied of excess cash

Explanation:
I know that I just suggested "absorption" for "Abschöpfung," but in this particular case you might consider describing what is supposed to happen, instead of using a single word (which I can't seem to find right now).

Asker: fits the meaning but I'd still be interested in a succinct term!

agree Jan Liebelt: "Emptied" definitely, but not necessarily "excess": To whose requirements?!

-> Good point. I suppose I was imagining that elsewhere in the document the management (?) has set limits to the amount of cash that may be kept in the register at any one time. You are correct though - it mustn't necessarily be "excess." Thank you, Jan. :-)

neutral Jan Liebelt: Sounds like a bank account (i.e. "virtual" rather than actual). And in response to your comment: In what way can the expression "The till must be *removed* regularly" be correct?

-> Jan - "emptied" is certainly better, but "cleared/removed" does'nt appear to be wrong either. Jan, I got your point. Your observation is corredct. "removed" cannot be used here. Thanks for pointing out.

disagree Jan Liebelt: And then put down again? Or "lifted" by a thief perhaps? A trifle misleading, methinks. And in answer to your comment:Your ref. only mentions cash lift trolleys (see diagram at http://www.lonsto.co.uk/cash.htm). How relevant is that? Sorry.

-> Hello Jan; perhaps a look at the added site reference might persuade you that the expression really does exist...// Never been to Tescos? You've never lived...
