counterparty risk or credit risk Explanation: Zahn, Bank- & Börsenwesen, lists "name (counterparty) risk", and "risk of counterparty default" for Adressausfallrisiko. A searc on "counterparty risk" yielded quite a few hits which also indicate that "credit risk" might be an alternative translation. See Credit Risk Credit risk is risk resulting from uncertainty in a counterparty's ability or willingness to meet its contractual obligations. Examples include: A bank makes a loan to a corporate client. Because it is possible that the client will fail to make timely principal or interest payments, the bank faces credit risk. A corporation executes an interest rate swap with a counterparty. If interest rates move in the corporation's favor, the counterparty will owe the corporation a net obligation. Because the counterparty could fail to perform on such an obligation, the corporation faces pre-settlement credit risk. An investment company has a forward contract to exchange German marks for US dollars with a foreign bank. On the contract's maturity date, the investment company wires its mark payment, but because of time differences, there is a delay in the foreign bank making its corresponding dollar payment. Because it is possible that the bank will fail to make its payment, the corporation faces settlement credit risk. www.contingencyanalysis.com/glossary.htm ...are increasingly facing credit risk (or counterparty risk) in various financial instruments other than loans, including ... www.bis.org/publ/bcbs54.htm Credit risk (or counterparty risk) can be described as ``the risk of a trading partner not fulfilling his obligations in full on due date or any time thereafter ... www-m4.mathematik.tu-muenchen.de/m4/projects/cred_txt.shtml HTH |
