Explanation:
I'm still not very happy with the concept of 'Abwicklung' in this context, as contracts could be settled in many different ways - which is why I would try not to translate it literally:

"High open interest would indicate significant volumes towards maturity or expiration."

Explanation:
Without any confidence, I am just inferring that if 'open interest' refers to the volume of market activity, then Abwicklungsbedarf might indicate the need or demand to engage in such activity?
Maybe the glossary will be of interest anyway :-)

I have no personal knowledge as to the correctness of this suggestion.

agree  Terry Moran: The suffix "-bedarf" seems to rule out everything except rollover.

  -> That's my hunch, too - but I would need to see the text in order to follow this narrow focus - for example, if this was about short-term interest rate futures, rollover wouldn't be as obvious as with fixed-income futures
