German term or phrase: akonto
Für Vorauszahlungen sind Akonto-Rechnungen und Zahlungseingangsbestätigung als Nachweis verwendbar.
This is Swiss German - is it possibly just a Germanized version of the French acompte (deposit)? Grateful for any Swiss German expert help..

on account
Explanation:
The term "Akonto" comes from "Akontierung"; Dietl/Lorenz gives "payment on account" for "Akontozahlung" (but also see: http://www.proz.com/?sp=gloss/term&id=700555&float=y ).

Maybe "invoice on account" would work in your case. :-)

BTW: As far as I know this is not specific to Switzerland.

When I read the word \"akonto\", the word \"advance\" also comes to mind (hope I could help). :-)

In the event I chose advance payment account, a slightly different formulation.

disagree  SwissTell: sorry, Derek, akonto in Swiss German means partial payment/down payment

agree  RobinB: A payment "on account" means exactly that: a downpayment! And of course it's not specific to Switzerland.
