German term or phrase: Aktienfondsgesellschaft
Deutsche Aktienfondsgesellschaften nehmen die Kundenbedürfnisse nicht ernst genug - Ausländische Konkurrenz nutzt die Chance.

equity fund manager
Explanation:
or sometimes "equities fund manager". Curiously, this isn't even in the new 5th edition of the Zahn Bank- und Börsenwesen dictionary that's just been published.

The point is firstly that we're talking about equities here: not bonds, not derivatives/structured products, not hybrid funds and not hedge funds.

Secondly, the Fondsgesellschaft is the fund management company ("fund manager"), not the fund itself.

And I'd certainly agree with the content of the German sentence!
