German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Food & Dairy / Foodstuffs processing
German term or phrase: angetaut
The sentence says that food products should be angetaut or aufgetaut before the filling aid is added. I am looking for the distinction between these two terms

lightly thawed
Explanation:
A Google search for this word - over 7,000 entries! - shows that it is the degree of thawing. Angetaut means that it is still very cold, but possibly malleable, and the foodstuff can, in many cases be, refrozen with no great danger. Aufgetaut means it it has completely thawed - it should not be refrozen unless it has first been cooked.

aufgetaut

Explanation:
angetaut hört sich nicht gut an, wird im Sprachgebrauch kaum benutzt. Aufgetaut bedeutet es war gefroren und wurde aus dem Kühlschrank genommen um am nächsten Tag gebraten werden zu können.

Angetaut ist sprachlich eigentlich falsch

I just said that it won´t be used very often, please read closely before writing.

disagree Frosty: Type `angetaut´ into Google and see what happens! It is not falsch, neither sprachlich nor as a culinary term. And for this you have given yourself a confidence level of 5 - unbelievable!

disagree oliver05: Es ist nicht sprachlich falsch und wird auch nicht selten benutzt.
