German to English translations [PRO] Food & Dairy / beer
German term or phrase:Bierlaune und Bierseeligkeit
I have posted these two terms together because they form the main title for a text about the history of beer, its popularity, modern "inventions" (fruit + beer mixes), medicinal properties etc.
The two terms also appear separately lower down in the text, used as subtitles for two separate sections. The "Bierlaune" section details the modern fruit-flavoured beers, and the "Bierseeligkeit" section goes under the heading "Bierseeligkeit vom Rausch bis zur Medezin" and talks about beer's popularity and its medicinal properties.
My problem is twofold. How to translate the title "Bierlaune UND Bierseeligkeit", and how to translate "Bierseeligkeit" as a separate term. (I confirm the spelling with double "e"). I would be very grateful if anyone could throw light on the single term and help me to see light at the end of the tunnel with the title.
Thank you for all your suggestions and discussions. Although all suggestions are valid, I chose to award the points to Lesley who put me on to a freer translation of the title, which I felt sounded a little less stilted than a literal translation. Thanks to all for your help.
The translation doesn't necessarily have to be as stilted as the original. My question to you, Jeux de Mots, is this: what kind of tone are you dealing with? Humorous? Dry? Serious? Light reading? Touristic?
I assume it's vital to keep the term "beer" in the translation, isn't it?
Bierlaune cold be nicely translated as "high spirits".
Bierseeligkeit as "Beer bliss"
