German to English translations [PRO] Art/Literary - Furniture / Household Appliances | | German term or phrase: Aufsatzofen | The text is describing historical furnishings in a museum. I'm clear what an Ausatzofen is and it is easy to find pictures on the internet, but I don't know what to call it in English.

the exact term is hard to find; sometimes mentioned as parlour stove; the particular design with the "Aufsatz' does not seem to have an equivalent; but this picturegallery might help to identify the " Ingeborg Gowans: 8:00pm Sep 25, 2006: "suspect", i was going to say; since it is not a "Kachelofen: as such, I guess tiled stove does not fit, eh? | Note from asker to answererThanks to everyone. In the end I called it a "two-part stove" in the title and wrote in the description of "stoves with an additional upper section ....". While I appreciated the suggestions made, "box stove" seemed to me to simply describe the shape of the firebox part, while "cornice stove" didn't seem to quite fit Ausatzöfen that I have seen depicted, where the upper stove can be a fair bit taller than the lower one - in other words the Aufsatz is considerably more than a cornice. 1 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer |
