German term or phrase: zweiten Lebensjahrzehnt
In a letter by someone talking about a relative suffering from MS:

"Erste Anzeichen beobachteten sie bereits seit ihrem zweiten Lebensjahrzehnt."
Emma Grubb

between the ages of 10-20
Explanation:
"she noticed the first symptoms between the ages of 10-20"...

as Nick pointed out, "between the ages of 10 AND 20" is also perfectly valid - may even be grammatically better.

disagree  Ian M-H: Not sure about "everyone", but this is the wrong decade IMO.

in/by her (early) teens

Explanation:
Depending on when exactly in that second decade, BUT I think it's safe to assume they mean the first half of her 10s ...

- by her pre-teens
- before she had even reached her teens
- before she was even a teenager

- while still at (grade) school
(although far more speculative and probably too vague or indeed inaccurate)

neutral  Ian M-H: I like your headline answer, but worry that it doesn't mean exactly the same as the source (i.e. appears more precise but may actually be inaccurate).

  -> without further info, my answer(s) was always going to be speculation ;-\

agree  Trudy Peters: w/o the early. She could have been 16 or 17 for all we know. / That's why we should leave out the early. It's assuming more than the original says.

  -> ta - but she could also've been 10-12, which is the problem here

agree  Ian M-H: If we don't have enough information to be more precise, this has to be the way to go. (If we did, Frank's options would be nice.) // Nick is, of course, right about replacing "-" with "_and_" ;-)

  -> Thank you!

agree  Laurel Porter: Francis' "teens" is nice, but possibly inaccurate. Yours is the only one that doesn't make assumptions - works for me. :-)
2 hrs
  -> Great, thank you ;-)

neutral  xxxNick Somers: I actually agree but "between 10-20" is one of my pet irritations; it should be "between 10 and 20". Sorry to be a pedant - please feel free to eat, shoot and leave.

  -> i dithered over that for a while too - changed it back and forth - either works ;-)
