German term or phrase: Erziehungszwecke
Hi all,

Could somebody please tell me what the difference between Erziehungszwecke, Ausbildungszwecke and Fortbildungszwecke in the following sentence:

Die Voraussetzungen für die Steuerbefreiung seien nicht erfüllt, weil der Kläger die Jugendlichen nicht für die begünstigten Zwecke (Erziehungs-, Ausbildungs- oder Fortbildungszwecke, Zwecke der Säuglingspflege) bei sich aufgenommen habe.

agree  Jaime Hyland: though I prefer "further" to "continuing" education. And "schooling" fits the sentence better than the first "education. ": o )

agree  Alison Kirkland: It's possible that English would only use one or two words for all three terms, and of course writers do sometimes use tautologies, but its probably best to play safe and use three distinct terms.

The true meaning of 'Zweck' is 'purpose, aim, objective, intention, goal etc.', thus along this line making

to
parenting, schooling or further education purposes

Example sentence(s):
  • The parents did not fulfill the legal requirements for parenting, schooling or further education.
