German term or phrase:stocksteif
From a rustic novel:
context:
"Und nun ist die Mene krank - Sag ihr, sie muss einfach kommen - Das habe ich mir auch gedacht, aber sie bleibt stocksteif im Bett."
Meaning something like - "But she stubbornly stays in bed." Can anybody think of something better?
Thank you, Edwin, should have checked that out myself. Good thing I've got small feet, easier to remove from my mouth. Of course, the discussion is often enough for me to go on, boosting my brain in the right direction, but I still would award points to the answerer closest to what I have decided on. But splitting points? Yes, there are definately cases where this would apply.
after all, it's 42 out of 300. And the explanation, at least for those cited by Kim, is "answer found elsewhere." Which could, of course (and considering the fairly generic nature of the expressions sought in Kim's links), connote a lot of things... could this be a supporting argument for instituting a function for distributing points to more than one answerer?
So what's the sense in making suggestions? I mean, I'm not here for the ONLY for the points, but someone should be awarded/recognized/ shown appreciation for his/her efforts, don't you think? Or are we your personal think tank? I do believe this merits an answer.
Explanation: 'stocksteif' is a comical/rustic expression that does have a strong visual component; so I would try to convey that figurative sense with some image that suggests the stiffness of wood.
