pit village / mineworker village

Explanation:
This is what the local residents were likely to call it at the time I used to live in one - with `pit village´ being the most frequently heard, `mineworker village´ being often used by the local press.

Apparently there aren`t many of them left these days!

And the version from Andrew is also not wrong.
