Science - Geography

Thanks.

spring tide

Explanation:
It's amazing what Google can do for you.

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springflut

The semidiurnal tidal range (the difference in height between high and low tides over about a half day) varies in a two-week or fortnightly cycle. Around new and full moon when the Sun, Moon and Earth form a line (a condition known as syzygy), the tidal forces due to the Sun reinforce those of the Moon. The tide's range is then maximum: this is called the spring tide, or just springs and is derived not from the season of spring but rather from the verb meaning "to jump" or "to leap up".

Springzeit (Springtide):

agree  writeaway: after the spring tide. time is unnecessary

agree  Andrew Swift: Not only unnecessary but wrong
9 hrs

agree  Paul Cohen: Yes, the "-zeit" in "Springzeit" comes from "Gezeiten" - and "time" has no business being there.

neutral  Paul Cohen: Your reference refers to the actual "time" when the spring tide arrives (for ex., 5 minutes to 10:00 am). However, in this case, I'm afraid the word "time" is out of place. See our comments to Kim.

-> According to "Wörterbuch Geotechnik" byH. No need to edit the source text, IMO.

disagree  Andrew Swift: By translating '-zeit' twice, you have edited the source text (IMO). Who is H. Buksch?
