German term or phrase: Schloss zu Hof
The context for this term is the following:

Im Frühling 1850 begann die Arbeit, die Kirche wurde um drei Klafter verlängert, ungefähr so weit die Emporkirche reicht. Der Maurermeister Joseph Oberegger, Schloss zu Hof führte die Arbeit dem alten Schiffe zurück, im übrigen blieben dieselben unverändert, zugleich setzte man die gegenwärtigen Stühle neu hinein und deckte das Dach bis hinauf zum Prespiterium.

My translation so far is:

In the spring of 1850, the work began to lengthen the church 3 fathoms, about as far as the gallery stretches. The master builder Joseph Oberegger, Schloss zu Hof, led the work back to the old nave, the details remained unchanged. At the same time, the current chairs were newly installed and the roof was covered all the way up to where the elected elders sat.

I don't understand the term Schloss zu Hof at all. My only guess now is that it is an appositive (noun phrase naming the one right beside it) for Joseph Oberreger.

Asker: Thank you for you reply. This is Austria and I acknowledge that Hof may be a location where Friedrich is from.

neutral  LegalTrans D: "Schloss zu Hof" doesn't necessarily mean the Castle is called "Hof", David, although it is very likely.

agree  Brigitte Albert: I am inclined to agree with you...if you google "Schloss zu" you will find many hits for castles in or near a certain locality...this seems to be a castle near Hof. This doesn't mean that he lived there...perhaps he had the official post of Maurermeister.
