Explanation:
Tidal forests are found along the edges of deltas of rivers in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. Such forests are salt tolerant and are flooded by seawater during high tide.

I do not believe that floodplain is necessary.

Auf der Elbinsel Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg gibt es im Naturschutzgebiet "Heukenlock" an der Süderelbe ein natürliches Überflutungsgebiet am Elbufer, das zweimal täglich im Rhythmus der Gezeitenwechsel (Tiden) bei Flut mehr oder weniger unter Wasser gesetzt wird. Dieser Umstand hat dafür gesorgt, dass sich hier Pflanzen und Tiere angesiedelt haben, die es sonst nirgendwo mehr in der freien Natur gibt.
