Geography
German term or phrase: Großregion
Tourist events etc. in Germany's "Großregion"- Bonn, Darmstadt, Frankfurt, Trier, Heidelberg, Koblenz, Mainz, Trier ..... Does not include anywhere in Belgium, Lux. or France.
Is simply "Germany's Greater Region" OK?

English translation:the German parts of the "Greater Region"
Explanation:
...strikes me as a slightly clearer option.
It is not the "Greater Region" of Germany, but those parts of the "Greater Region" that are within Germany. "Germany's Greater Region" sounds more like the former rather than the latter.

These places are all within the territory of the "Greater Region" (c.f. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greater_Region); however, given the new information (context), one wonders whether the geopolitical entity known as the "Greater Region" is actually of relevance here, or whether it would suffice simply to say

"Christmas markets in the (wider) region".

agree  Armorel Young: I agree with you - the Greater Region spans several countries, and it is only the German part of it that is being referred to here

agree  yyyzzz: With your amended suggestion in discussion box. // PS Thanks for the ref. It leads on to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Greater_Region If the locals are confused, I don't suppose the term will mean much to any visiting English speakers.

-> Thanks! // Nice onward link. It rather sounds as though "Greater Region" is a nice example of the EU trying to solve non-existent problems by creating new ones! The motto of the EU will apparently never be: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" ;-)
