German term or phrase: oberbergisch
Context:
Im oberbergischen Städtchen ... treffen die weltweit verzweigten Vertriebs- und Beschaffungswege des Familienunternehmens XXX zusammen.

According to the website http://www.oberbergischesland.de/e-index.phtml it could be something like "situated in the Oberberg district", but I'm not sure whether that's a good translation.

The text is meant for Britain; would that mean anything to a Brit anyway?

Please note the following sentence from the website quoted above:
However, the denomination "Oberbergisch" (literally "with high hills") does not derive from the natural shape of our hilly landscape but refers to the former rulers of the land, i.e. the Counts von Berg.

Clarification request(s) and response
Annette Scheulen (asker): 6:47am Oct 2, 2004: To SwissTell - Where, please? It is not in the glossary.

Oberbergian / located in (the district of) Oberberg
Explanation:
Obviously, Oberberg being a small region in Germany, one would not expect a Brit to be familiar with it. There's nothing you can do about that. You can always leave it out if you find it too confusing.

I ended up using a very free translation: "situated in the nature park Bergisches Land", in the hopes that this would mean more to a British reader, but I added a comment with this translation in case anybody prefers a more literal translation.

"Oberberg district/district of Oberberg" is not a translation of "Oberbergisches Land", which – that's correct – is not translated, but of "Oberbergischer Kreis". "Oberberg", which sounded strange to me at first, seems to be quite common in that region, see e.g. http://www.oberberg-online.de/ or http://www.oberberg.com/. The EU translates "Oberbergischer Kreis" as "Oberberg district" (http://europa.eu.int/comm/consumers/redress/out_of_court/commu/acce_just04_en_ccb_en.pdf), Siemens as "district of Oberberg" (http://www.medical.siemens.com/siemens/en_INT/rg_marcom_FBAs/files/press/2003/PDF/MagicWeb_en.pdf).

I just read your note and my answers may not fit if that business about the von Bergs applies to your translation

agree Dr. Fred Thomson: Great solution. It is even less likely that an Arizonan would know of this region unless he had been there or read of it.

upper Berg County

Explanation:
As it obviously refers to the region south-east of Wuppertal between Agger and Sieg.It is not mountainous at all and I think your reference to the Grafen von Berg is more appropriate.I suppose the BERG part may have come from the contrast that must have struck early travellers when comparing it with the very flat Netherlands.
