In a description of minerals to be found in a cave.

"Die Calcite sind im vorderen Bereich der Höhle durchwegs als Rhomboeder auskristallisiert. Diese Kristallform sieht aus wie ein schräg geneigter Würfel. Das Mineral Calcit hat die Eigenschaft, beim Zerschlagen immer wieder in sogenannte Spaltrhomboeder zu spalten."

Das PBC Modell erklärt den {104} Spaltrhomboeder des Calcits.

The macroscopic crystal growth of calcite was performed in gels. The obtained crystals were investigated with scanning electron microscopy. With inert pore solutions the {104} rhombohedron is the dominating habit. Succinic acid and aspartic acid inhibit the acute steps of the calcite {104} surface.
