I have been using deflections but do not think it's the correct term. I don't think it would be a horizontal drill hole because those are discussed in another section.

What I think is happening is they are trying to be cost-efficient by reusing existing tunnels instead of drilling new ones. Other ways of putting it could include "branching off", "ramifying", "deviating".
