German term or phrase: Status desGewöhnlichen...Größenordnung ist eben immer noch erlebte Vergangenheit
I am not feeling completely confident of my translation of "Status des Gewöhnlichen" so any reassurance that it is okay or even suggestions to make it better are appreciated. Also, I wasn't really sure what to make of the bit about Mao...

"Ihre beobachtenden Blicke gegenüber den fotografierenden Kulturtouristen machen deutlich, dass hier die Veränderungen noch längst nicht den Status des Gewöhnlichen erreicht haben, denn das 798 Mao’scher Größenordnung ist für die etwas älteren Chinesen eben immer noch erlebte Vergangenheit."

My translation so far:
"With their watchful eyes aimed at the photograph-snapping tourists, it is clear that the changes that have taken place here are far from being considered commonplace. This is due to the fact that the 798 ***Mao’scher Größenordnung ist eben immer noch erlebte Vergangenheit*** for older Chinese people. "

Thanks a lot!

Your \"commonplace\" is also a possible solution for the first question.

The 798 (I seem to remember you said that was a factory in a previous question) which was created by Mao (or in the Mao era) was an enormous structure on a massive scale, and many older people still identify with it as part of their personal biography.
