agree  orla: proprietor or owner. Described on their own website simply as the "Besitzer". See kurioses-a-interessantes: "Um 1900 brachte Schauenburg-Besitzer Emil Flury von einer Reise ein Büschel Edelreis aus dem Libanon mit nach Hause..."//Tarnkappe :)

-> Thanks, orla. I was wondering if this three-part answer was shrouded in a Tarnkappe.

agree  Horst Huber: A "Wirt" is someone who "bewirtschaftet" something. However, he, (if she it would be "Wirtin"), may not actualy hold the title to it

-> Yes, Horst. 'Proprietor' has a more hands-on sense than (possibly absent) owner.

agree  Nicola Wood: My only hesitation in agreeing was whether he actually owned the hotel, but orla's reference confirms this, so I would definitely go with proprietor or owner. Otherwise I would have favoured your alternative option of landlord, so an agree on all counts.

-> Thanks, Nicola. Tricky indeed. There is a danger of over-translating this term by making assumptions about title to the property. Yet the non-committal 'landlord' seems more appropriate to a pub than this grand spa hotel.

... might be a possibility here ("innkeeper" sounds slightly off the mark in my opinion).

agree  BrigitteHilgner: Since Flury is called a "Badwirt" in one google entry this seems appropriate.
