Freiwilligenzentren vermitteln und beraten in Sachen Freiwilligenengagement. Sie sollen die Vernetzung der Freiwilligenorganisationen vorantreiben und sich auf regionaler und lokaler Ebene für freiwilliges Engagement stark machen...

How can I convey this to English?
Serdar Domurcuk
Local time: 03:11
serve as liaisons and advisers in the area of
Explanation:
"Mediate" suggests conflict, "consult" too much formality. Just my sense of the intent, lacking the wider context.

We do not seem to have a verb corresponding to "contact", "liaise" is very popular, but not to my taste. Can one offer, or provide liaison and advice?

neutral  one only: "Sachen" in this text is best to translate "in matters like." I do not believe that the translator has to "embellish" the original expression.

I am attempting to stay with the original text - "Sachen" in this text is best to translate "in matters like." I do not believe that translator has to "embellish" the original expression.

disagree  sibsab: I don't think "things" is the correct term here//Good for you that you deleted your reply "I don't care about your opinion!"//in Sachen Freiwilligenengagement//?

disagree  Nicole Schnell: "in Sachen" means "in matters of" or "in regard to". Literal translations of common phrases often result in mistranslations.

-> Dear Nicole, as you see, I have included your idea in my "explanation" of the term.

disagree  Kim Metzger: Do you think writing idiomatic English is "embellishing"?

agree  Armorel Young: I fully agree with your comment on "mediate" - however "serve as liaisons" doesn't sound right; better to keep to the verb form and say "liaise and advise"
6 hrs
  -> Danke bestens!

agree  Nicola Wood: also agree with Amorel that you need to retain the verb to liaise rather than serve as liaisons

...facilitate and advise in matters of volunteering...

Explanation:
'facilitate' is probably the term that would best express 'vermitteln' in American usage.
