Bus/Financial - Human Resources
German term or phrase: gewinnen
context: human resources
this is from a letter announcing a new hire
"Wir haben jetzt Herrn XXX gewinnen können, de rnach einer angemessenen Übergangszeit die aufgaben von Herrn XXX übernehmen soll."
More background info: the company wishes to convey a "warm and fuzzy" tone, as they are very happy to have someone now; the interim guy has been doing the job for over a year now, and someone else was hired for the spot but left after only a couple of months.
My problem is how to convey this. My first impulse was to say "We were fortunate enough now to secure the services of..." but it sounds a bit stilted to me and I am not sure the "services of" part sounds quite right, since this will be a full-time permanent employee of the company, and "services of" implies (at least to me) more a free-agent type of relationship.
Any ideas much appreciated!
English translation:We are happy to announce the appointment of Mr X
who will be a valuable addition to our team and will take over from Mr Y bla bla bla.
I'd go along with something like that ...
Mr X has kindly agreed to join our team ... (but that makes him sound a bit condescending)
We are happy to report that Mr X has agreed to join our team ...
One of the above!

Thanks very much for all of the excellent suggestions. (I should have been able to come up with something myself, but was in a total brain fog.) I decided to use "we are happy to report that Mr. xxx agreed to join our team." Thanks also tremendously to Kim for "on board," which I used in a later sentence.
With best regards to all,

We have been able to hire ...
Just another version of your idea, which, by the way, I think sounds pretty good since this person might be extremely qualified to do the job and they were lucky to get him.
