agree  Steffen Walter: perhaps sth. w/ "historic" (policy, contract, case, claim)? IMHO "business" is too general as the letter deals with a specific case/claim. / Agree with Deborah's reasoning.

agree  Deborah Shannon: old/pre-existing contracts - policies taken out before some landmark date - maybe before the portfolio was taken over by another company or before new regulations came in
