German term or phrase: Betriebshaftplicht-Versicherung
The above is the title of a Swiss insurance policy I received to translate

However the attachment that came with it is labeled 'Third Party Liability'. Are these terms interchangeable (points for yes/no and explanation- if that's okay with the scrutineers!)

commercial liability insurance
Explanation:
Other translations that I have found include "business liability insurance" and "employer's liability insurance".

The term "third party liability insurance" is actually used most often as a catch-all name for "Haftpflichtversicherung." I regularly abbreviate it and simply call it "liability insurance" precisely because of words like "Betriebshaftpflichtversicherung," which is a particular type of liability insurance for companies used to insure the risk of claims asserted by third parties (hence the term "third party...").

At least that is how I see it. :-)

BUT there are other possibilities:
Betriebs- und Berufshaftpflichtversicherung is called by one huge insurance company "employers' and professional liability insurance"

Also, translating in the other direction (including entries in the Kudoz glossary) you also get other corroborated results.

Sometimes the names overlap, the cover is not identical in different countries AND the company might have its own preferences. Can't you ask them?

neutral  Derek Gill Franßen: IMHO "professional indemnity insurance" or "professional liability insurance" (the same thing) would work for "Berufshaftpflichtversicherung," but not "Betriebshaftpflichtversicherung." - as you say yourself (employer's liability insurance). ;-)

-> Thanks Nick. Yes, I think you are right about there being overlaps. And yes, IMHO they are the exact same thing (see, for example, the first sentence here: http://www.betriebsausgabe.de/betriebshaftpflichtversicherun... ). :-)
