I need to explain to an American that there are two different types of health insurance in Germany, i.e. the Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung (compulsary health insurance?) and the Private Krankenversicherung.

How could I call it? Private health insurance?

Actually, it's in order to tell him that only part of the population pays a sort of co-pay amount (Praxisgebühr) ...
