For instance if a hotel keeper down Abbott Street in Vancouver, with an Occupier's Liability Insurance Policy, finds a drunken hobo or spaced-out whino hiding in one of the hotel dustbins (I've actually seen this) and the tramp gets injured and sues the hotel keeper, the ins. co. will 'indemnify' (freistellen) the policyholder against the claim, including taking over the conduct of any litigation brought by the hobo's lawyers.
NB Rechtsanspruch can, besides a legal entitlement, also mean a legal remedy one party has against another.
