Jon, the Wiki quote is in my initial question. I googled abstract referral but didn't find very much. For abstract relegation there isn't much either, therefore I wonder if there is a specific English/US insurance term for this.

There is no sentence. This is one component in this insurance plan, a waiver of abstract relegation or whatever it may be called. What it means is explained in the Wikipedia sentence I quoted, i. e. that the insurer can refuse payment if the insured is still capable of working to a certain degree. Some insurance plans waive this clause.
