German to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Insurance
German term or phrase: Beteiligungsgeschäft
Several insurers form a consortium that writes shares in an insurance policy to cover a large risk. "Beteiligungsgeschäft" is the general term for this kind of business, as opposed to business where one insurer alone writes a policy for a (smaller) risk.

"Beteiligungsgeschäft" is the headline of a paragraph that tells people what to do in this kind of business.

Co-insurance

Explanation:
As far as I am aware a "Beteiligungsgeschäft" is translated as "co-insurance" in a European context (at least co-insurance refers to an insurance contract in which the risk is spread among multiple insurers usually with one lead-insurer).
Note that this only applies in a European context, in the USA co-insurance is, as far as I am aware, a health insurance term linked to co-pay.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Holger, thanks for your suggestion. I would not use co-insurance in this context, because it also means that the insured bears part of the risk which would be misleading. Meanwhile I have asked two people who work with large international insurers. Both told me that they call this kind of business "follow", as opposed to "lead" ("Führungsgeschäft") in which case one insurer is the lead (insurer) and the other insurers who usually write a smaller share of the risk follow. Best regards and thanks, Annette
