German to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Insurance | | German term or phrase: an sich | do I need to translate "an sich", I'm not sure what it means:
In jedem Fall übernimmt der Versicherer höchstens die Kosten, die bei einem Verfahren vor einem *an sich* zuständigen deutschen Gericht angefallen wären.
In any event, the insurer assumes at most the costs that would be payable in a process before a competent German court. |

Explanation: I agree this reflects the conditional. However, I think it also implies that the court would 'as such' have been sachlich zuständig/ subject-matter -> ratione materiae as well as örtlich zuständig/ territorial -> ratione loci competent.
