Hi All!
Q: Is a **Deckungsbrief ** just a cover letter or is (also) something like a "statement of coverage"
This is for a legal agreement to lend motorcycles & misc. related items for exhibition. The exhibitor must insure the exhibited materials and their transport.

CONTEXT:
GERMAN version:
"1. Versicherung
Das ______________ versichert die Leihgaben für die Dauer der Ausstellung und des Transportes auf den mit dem Leihgeber vereinbarten Wert bei der UNIQA Sachversicherungs AG.
Die Versicherung gilt auf „erstes Risiko“ und sowie alle Fälle in denen das _____________ die Haftung für An- und Abtransporte zu übernehmen hat in der Deckungsform „volle Deckung gegen alle Risiken“.
Die Versicherungspolizze und die Prämienrechnung sowie ein Deckungsbrief gehen direkt von der UNIQA Sachversicherungs AG an das _____ und müssen vor der Übernahme bzw. Zustellung durch den Leihgeber vorliegen. Die Prämienrechnung muß vor der Übergabe bzw. Zustellung der Leihgaben durch das ______________ bezahlt werden."

My ENGLISH version so far:
"The ______________ shall insure the loaned items through the UNIQA Sachversicherungs AG (UNIQA Property Insurance Co.) for the value agreed upon with the Loaner, for the duration of both the exhibit and their transport.
The insurance shall cover “first loss” and thereby all circumstances under which the _____________ is to assume the liability for transports to and from the location under the type of coverage * Deckungsform * “full coverage against all risks (AAR)”.
The insurance policy and the invoice for premiums as well as a **Deckungsbrief ** cover letter // statement of coverage shall be sent directly from the UNIQA Sachversicherungs AG to the _______ and must be available and on file before the items' receipt or delivery by the Loaner. The premium invoice must be paid by the ________________________________ before the loaned items are entrusted or delivered."

Cover Note (BE)

Explanation:
This is what it would be called in the UK - but you may be writing for a US etc. audience.

'Loaner' doesn't show up in my Am law dict. I would call Leihgeber lender or bailor vs. borrower or bailee.

'Cover Note. ... A Cover Note is usually written by an agent, and it informs the insured that coverage is in effect. See also Binder. [close].'
