*Ein bezauberndes Zusammenspiel winziger Zufälle*: Ein Fremdkörper dringt ins Muschelinnere ein, wird abgekapselt und Schicht für Schicht entsteht eine Perle, die in Form und Farbe einzigartig ist. Nur in 20 von 8.000 doppelschaligen Muschelarten kann sie überhaupt wachsen. Und nur wenige Perlen werden groß und regelmäßig genug, um später ein Schmuckstück zu sein. Bis es soweit ist, vergeht ein Zeitraum von zwei bis acht Jahren: Schicht um Schicht ummantelt die Auster ein Stück Gewebe oder einen implantierten Kern mit weißem oder farbigem Perlmutt.

Maybe 'charming' fits nicely with the concept of pearls, as they are sometimes used for 'charms' (Glücksbringer, Amulett)...
