English translation: what are you using for the users of the site?

German term or phrase: Kontakte

ok... I'capitulate

This is a Friendster-like site, where people post their profile and then search for each other to go out, to travel, do sports, find old classmates ect.

The work "Kontakte" appears in just about every sentence and I am just not quite sure it can simply be translated as "contacts". It just doesn't sound right.

"Kontaktanzeigen" would be "personals" for example... but then these aren't personals.

Here are some examples:

bei XXX(site name) hätten Sie keine guten **Kontakte** gefunden!

welche **Kontakte** man möchte - und welche man lieber von
vornherein ausschließt

sich einzutragen, um möglichst viele Kontakt-Chancen wahrzunehmen

wie Sie an einen neuen **Kontakt** herangehen

Sie können unbegrenzt nach **Kontakten** suchen

I am wondering if I should simply use "people" in this context....

English translation:what are you using for the users of the site?

Explanation:
you could use a variety of things:

"make new friends"
"make new contacts" (this is used more in a business sentence, though)
"meet new people"
"forge new friendships"
"strike up new friendships"
"search for other members/users"

e.g. "Log in to see the maximum number of members"
"Log in to see the maximum number of matches (for your criteria"
"How to approach someone for the first time"
"Search for new matches"
"which members you would like to contact, and which you would like to exclude from your list" - or whatever!

Basically, I don't think there is a catch-all term in this case!
