German term or phrase: ordentliche Kündigung der Beteiligung
Source sentence:
Eine ordentliche Kündigung der Beteiligung durch den Investor ist erstmals zum 31.12.2024 möglich.

A good KudoZ question [http://www.proz.com/kudoz/4442239] that did not receive any answers was closed a couple of days ago. The question did see a number of discussion area entries and a reference posting, suggesting possible translations in a different context. However, none of these suggestions addressed the source term in the context of "a prospectus for an investment in a closed-end fund".

Here's one more opportunity for us KudoZians to come up with translation ideas in the context of a prospectus for an investment in a closed-end fund.

Best of luck. Come to think of it, we have not inherited this KOG from our ancestors, but only borrowed it from our children ;-)

ordinary termination of participation
Explanation:
http://www.abnamroprivatebanking.com/de/singapore_flyer__-_e...

There is currently no organised secondary market for shares in closed-end venture capital funds. The duration of the Fund Company is unlimited. Each shareholder has an individual right of termination (for the first time as at 31.12.2017) with entitlement to a winding-up value. Individual termination of participation in the fund before the end of the forecast fund period of around 12 years is not possible.

...many closed-end funds have an investment period that endures for an extra 1-2 years following the termination of the commitment period in order to permit the “recycling” of capital, i.e., reinvestment of realized capital.

Redemptions – closed-end funds do not typically permit redemptions of capital at any time prior to the expiration of the fund’s specified term, except in extraordinary circumstances (such as ERISA violations or for other regulatory reasons). To offset this possible hardship, the documentation for many closed-end funds provide broader language on the ability of an investor to transfer its interest than is found in open-end funds, and also may contain language providing that the GP/manager will cooperate with an investor seeking to transfer its interest to a third party and possibly will assist the investor in locating a buyer to succeed to its interest in the fund.

"ordinary" is probably superfluous in English for this context.

@S Meyer: "ordentliche" Kündigung in German is used here to express a termination by the set termination date.
In order to get that across, one should at least try to keep the word in:
alternatives: within the period prescribed; at the end of the investment period.

Just because"ordinary termination" can't be found in many google hits doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong or can't be used. This particular context has also nothing to do with giving proper notice.
Sometimes, we need to step/think out of the pre-built boxes.

cancellation of participation

Explanation:
There are two terms used in finance, which may help here:
Cancellation of a mutual fund, is when the fund gets repaid(the fund's perspective). Redemption of shares is when the shareholder wants to cash in his shares (shareholder's perspective). Under some circumstances these terms may get intermingled. One does not speak of an ordinary cancellation, but there is something called an extraordinary cancellation.

agree  Susanne Creak: yes, or "cancellation of investment". I'd say: "The investor may cancel the investment by proper notice no sooner than effective [date]." One example for use of "cancel" in this context: http://www.investsmart.com.au/managed-funds/documents/Opis_P...

-> 1. see my links, not any google links; 2. "ordinary" is probably superfluous in English for this context if it refers to investment period; 3. need the correct meaning: termination of participation is on the mark IMO. 4. see my added comments above
