German to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - IT (Information Technology) | | German term or phrase: gehoben | This is used in logistics texts but the reference is to IT/data processing.
(perhaps "downloaded" or "extracted" in view of talk of duplicating information & the need to delete duplicate information?)
I'm not sure if gehoben refers to eliminating or "lifting (extracting i.e. downloading) the data....This is related to a an unsuccessful data transfer using the Gerät and a possible reason for the unsuccessful transfer is that the device is defect.
Here the Gerät mentioned in the sentence is used to transfer data. However the data transfer is not successful: Eine fehlende Übertragung kann auch in einem Defekt des gerätes begründet sein...and therefore the Gerät must be sent to the repair centre.
Thanks in advance

| Clarification request(s) and responseGASQUET: 3:48pm Dec 10, 2007: Recovered...and more context - For those who asked the device is a barcode scanner:
The PDT 3100 Series offers outstanding scanning for the most demanding environments. Built for unmatched durability and designed for flexible single-handed operation the PDT 3100 is the bar code data capture industrys most popular portable.
Both options seem possible, but perhaps "recovered" is more adequate in view of the defect. I would use the same verb in both cases. Hilary Davies: 7:53pm Dec 11, 2007: Hiya! I just wanted to let you know that it's a "defective" device in English, not "defect". ;-) GASQUET (asker): 8:14pm Dec 11, 2007: defective device - Please note defective device and not defect device....was concentrating so much on "gehoben" that I slipped up on "Defekt"...
Thanks Hilary

| | recovered | Explanation: I *think* this is a situation of trying to get data from a non-functioning device. If that's so, then "recovered" is the usual term in IT circles. However, if it's simply a question of getting the data off a normally working drive, then "retrieved" would be better. |

| Note from asker to answererI agree, I think recovered is more adequate in the case of a defect device. 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer |
