German to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - IT (Information Technology) / CD-ROMs | | German term or phrase: freirubbeln | "- Machen Sie es persönlich ...
Wir personalisieren Ihre CD-Rom Serie: Alphanumerisch, mit Barcode oder mit Rubbelfeld (z.b. Seriennummer zum freirubbeln)"
I know that "Rubbelfeld" is something like "scratch-off panel", but I don't know "freirubbeln" and can't find a translation for it anywhere. Rubbeln means scratch or rub, but I have no idea what, if any, meaning that "frei" is supposed to impart here. TIA for your help. |

| | scratch off | Explanation: "freirubbeln" indicates that whatever is hidden by the scratch-off label initially (for example the serial number), will be visible when the label has been scratched off. The label no longer blocks the view. "frei" is used similarly in "freie Sicht". |
